I have a 90 aerostar with a 3.0 with 80,000 on it and a 5speed worst car i havever own want it gone. but anyways on to the promblem. for some reason the throttle seems to stick. i lubed everything yesterday checked everything out and it seems to all be working but when idle like at a stop light or something it idles high. and in between gears when shifting. turn it off and sometimes its normal again until you start to drive again. any help would be great. thanks
ok from reading here it soundsl like my iac . so i will work on that what else can cause this promblem it happened before once this winter put went away just as fast as it happened. no its staying around. any help would be great.
I'm thinking IAC as well. I hope you removed the lube. The throttle linkage should be only moderately lubed, otherwise, the oil will attract dirt and dust, and gum up the linkage eventually. Thicker heavier oils are less prone to do this. I doubt that you have used enough oil to cause a problem, but the linkage around the TB should be kept fairly clean. Use a good solevent like TB cleaner to make sure there is no residual grease on the linkage. The throttle cable however, should be lubed, preferabley with a silicon, or a light machine oil. Do not use WD-40, as it vaporizes with time, and is ineffective, especially when exposed to heat.
Not back to the true cause of the fast idle. You can replace the IAC, which is almost definately the cause. Let us know how it goes, but that is not that expensive a part in the grand scheme of things. IACs can go bad on any vehicle, not just Fords, and not just Aerostars.
I agree, IAC needs to be replaced. You can try to clean it, but I've only seen one post that indiated that he successfully cleaned his IAC and this was after several times cleaning it. Mostly you are better off just replacing it.
