i have been thinking about gettting a new exhaust system for my ranger.i have looked around and the prices are a little bit high for me.(i guess that wut you pay for for good sound. but i was wondering if a glass pack would sound abou the same. its about half cheaper and easier to put on. i know it will not sound like flowmatser but it certainly will not be quiet anymore.do glasspacks any performane to the car or just sound. im also thinking about putting a k and n filter on mine. how much ho can i pick up or will i even feel the difference other then the sound?
Thanks for you comments/suggestions
I've read about a few people on here who take their glass pack before it is installed, pour gas into it, and light it to burn all the glass out. Then you install it. Makes for a much better sound.
how much are you looking to spend on an exhaust? I plan on picking up a flowmaster or magnaflow muffler and having the same guy that is painting my truck install that and run the piping while he has my truck in the shop, he'll do it for 100-200. Look into your local shops and ask around a little bit, most of them will give you a quote on the install and piping.
i was also thiniong about tdoing that. i think i can pick up a flowmaster muffler for midas and get them to install it. do you think they sell piping with the chrome tip at the end? i thining about spending no more then 200 dolars.
I got my 40 series Flowmaster and the custom 2.5" cat-back done for around $160 installed. I did not opt for the chrome tip because with where I drive, it is way too hard to keep it clean.
I had a single inlet/ dual outlet 40 series Flowmaster installed on my truck with a pair of stainless magnaflow 3 1/2" tips. Cost me $280 and the tips were $45 a piece so I see no reason why you couldnt get it done for around $200 if the shops in your area are reasonable.
I have my eyes on a single in/dual out magnaflow, cost me around 80 as the cheapest i've found of that particular one, haven't looked in a while, could have come down. Found out tonight that we could do my own exhaust in my dad's shop. they do some pipe bending there and a lot of the employees build custom things for their trucks when they are slow and have few orders to get out. Anything from bed rails, to exhaust, to little gadgets inside the truck, heck, found out a guy built his own air compressor for $90 in the shop, good size one, can't wait to get there and work, we already are going to make some hooks for the inside of the bed and weld them to the body for tie down spots to keep hidden. If you have a welder and feel comfortable doing it, you could probably do it yourself, lol, but if not, 200 is a definate yes, most shops will do it for around 150 with the muffler included, well, thats around here, had a buddy who had an exhaust done on his camaro for 220 w/ muffler, went with SLP loudmouths, or something like that, sounds good, had another guy with a cavalier, not sure what he got, but it was about 140 w/muffler, just gotta look. Usually if you can find a little backwoods garage, they can do it for cheap, and IMO better than some of these chains, at least from what i've seen, had a guy take his s-10 to a chain, they charged him an arm and a leg, and still didn't do the job right, they didn't do the hangars right and one of the seals wasn't welded properly, took it back and had em do it right again, the other 2 guys i mentioned, right the first time, 2 years ago, and still sounding good.
