This is only a guess, but I think it's an automatic dash light dimmer.

Is it hooked up to a wire or a tube? Some type of pressure sensor?
Can you zoom out on the pic?

It kind of looks like one of those relays that kills a fuel pump in case of a crash

I'll try to get a better pic. It has a little knured **** on to that can be turned so I don't think it is a fuel pump kill switch. Has an "up arrow" on it so it has to be mounted like you see it. Has wires coming out of it.

The little **** on the top with the arrow can be turned????

definetly sounds like a timer of sorts. possibly for lights to stay on after they are shut off???

unhook the ground wire and see if anything weird happens.

Mystery solved. I removed the thing so I could take a look at the back. Says Seco-larm. The wires lead to a place on the firewall where something used to be mounted. Guess it had an alarm system at one time and the little box is an adjustable motion switch.
