Well, I new this day would come, 0 oil pressure when she is hot and a lot of clanking noise from the bottom end. I posted a question not long ago about which is better having my motor rebuilt or buying a crate motor, the majority rule was to have my motor rebuilt, sucks, it only had 127,000 mile on it. I'm in Rapid City SD and I'm not sure if I can find a quality person to rebuilt my engine, if anyone knows, let me now, but... my question..... since I'm having it rebuilt, what type heads or cams should I go with to get more HP out of her, or should I leave her stock?? and since I will have the motor out, should I have the Tranny rebuilt? C6 I believe... It's been fine, but since it's apart what the heck, But how much will that be?? oh, It's a 351W in her....
You can probably pick up a short block and have your heads re-built. Find a cam that will work with your speed density. Alotta auto parts stores are offering re-manufactured motors now. You can probably get the new motor in, then always add on the bolt-on parts later. Like the headers, intake, etc. Leave the tranny alone, if it ain't broke, don't fix it! No need to open another can of worms, tranny's can esaily be removed at any time. I would just reccomend draining and re-filling the torque converter with fresh fluid.

I think I remeber that posting. I've been there done that myself. And I have to do it again, too.
Well, I'm not sure how the smog issues are for where you are. If money is of no concern, here is a list of performance items that are available from Edelbrock that are 50 state smog legal. Unless you want to build a trail only rig. Heads, Upper & lower Intake manifolds, Throttle Body, Cam, water pump, timing chain set, pretty much almost everything that we all big kids want.
for the heads though, the cheaper way to go is by having your stock ones rebuilt with steal inserts for the valve seats and 3 angle valve jobs.
I currently have Edelbrock's upper & Lower Intake, Throttle Body and cam installed in my 90 351W Bronco. Big difference between those few items over stock. Check out my gallery, I should have a few pictures posted of my engine.
As far as the tranny is concerned, maybe rebuild. If it was up to me and my rig I would consider rebuilding it. I think yours might be the AOD not the C6. I had an 89 Bronco with the 5.0L with the AOD tranny with it. But since you have the 5.8L, I'm note sure. Couldn't tell ya the accual cost, but if I were to gues I'd say from abot 1,000 to 2,500.
I will be pulling my 351W out of my Bronco and rebuild it, and I will be doing the same thing with my E4OD Tranny. So Bassically I will be rebuilding both of them at the same time. If I could afford it at that time I just might get a set of Edelbrock heads.
his tranny is the C6, they never had the 5.8 mated to an AOD in a truck/bronco.
a good cam would be a compcam 35-255-5 it will work with your computer just fine and offers great gains. find a couple local shops and get some prices on rebuilding your motor then ask around about whos better quality. if you go reman its easier but it will require a cam swap which may void the warranty if something goes wrong.
get some headers and new exhaust work done this will wake that motor up a bunch. I wouldnt worry about an intake at this time but be thinking about it for a future mod.
