I found an 84 f-150 in great condition. checked it over real good. (i actually wanted a 4x4 but I was 17 and mom woundnt let me. She convinces me to buy this truck she pays and I work to pay her back for it.(beats the tempo) i do. I got in november and it ran great. I have since replaced manifold gasket, starter, power brake booster, master cylinder, rotors calipers, clutch, and still needs some carb and engine work.
I owed her 2,5
With parts and labor, I have put almost 2 grand into and I still owe her 1,000
You have paid him 1K and have put $700 into it and you still owe him another 1K and he still has the title. There needs to be some way of knowing for sure that you are going to get the title!! Otherwise this friend will have all your money and you just fixed his truck on your dime!!
The truck is not yours until the title is in your name!!!!
You need a bill of sale. Keep all reciepts. Cancelled checks etc. May need legal advice---hope not. Call your DMV or tag office. They might have some advice.
I have gotten the shaft buying from a friend. At least I was able to split the repair costs with him. Still soured the friendship.
You will get things worked out. You will have a nice truck when you are done. Just costs a little more than you expected at first.
Older vehicles are full of suprises more often than not.
