What is that little electrical device that is bolted to the side of the coil. It has 1 wire going in and out of it, with a plug before it. It's about 1 - 1/2" - 2" long, maybe 1/2" diameter, it's a small metal cylinder with a wire coming out each end.
I'll get a pic if I have to, but what does this do? The one on my F-250 isn't even connected.
Also, to the left of the heater unit, where the passanger side hood hinge is, is some kind of small unit with a vacuum line on it. It's in the very corner of the engine bay. Whats that? That is also disconnected on my F-250.
Ooooo Ooooo Oooooo!!! I Know(I think)!!! I believe that is the radio reisitor. Dont ask me what it does but I remember looking that thing up on my Ford CD And thats what it said it was.
It's a factory noise suppressor (capacitor) for the radio. Got an audible whine through your speakers when the radio is on, hook it up. Since it's not connected now, if you don't have any noise your grounds are good and you have a new christmas tree ornamet.
The passenger side thing with the vacuum is the Blend door. It should be closed when the A/C is off. (vacuum line).
So that is part of the A/C system? My A/C doesn't work, I believe it needs to be recharged (fix any leaks)...but that vacuum line seems like it was cut, so that "blend door" is not working. What's it's purpose?
It's actually the fresh air door - the blend door is in the cab. The one you see under the hood opens anytime the vent is on (basically every setting except 'off' and 'max ac').
The problem I have, is whenever the A/C compressor is in use (A/C or defrost), you can hear the compressor click every 20-30 seconds or so, and you can feel the power loss (its very noticeable, unlike my F-150 that has working A/C). It's enough to kill the motor at idle sometimes. I figured it was just because it needs to be recharged.
What would the affect be when that "fresh air door" has the vacuum line cut off it like mine is...
