Hi folks. I ran a search for my problem but did not really find a solution. Maybe someone here can help. I have a 2001 f-350 7.3 diesel 4wd. When I switch to 4wd with the shift-on-the-fly, the A/C shifts to the defrost and the 4wd does NOT kick in. I know this has to do with the vacuum but I am not sure how to trace the problem. I did see one post that replaced the solenoid but I am wondering what I may can do to make sure of where my problem lies.
You can check the vacuum lines at the hubs to make sure they are still connected and not cracked/dry rotted. For that matter you can check all the lines from the hubs to the vacuum pump.
cookie88,
I did that today, hoping for an easy fix, but of course nothing ever comes easy! :^) I think what I need is a system to back track through the hoses andfind where the problemlies, then I will know what to repair.
danny c,
Also, check your vacuum pump, unplug the hose at the vacuum canister and it should kick on. Something I've also had to do on my 99 is clean the eletrical plug at the pump. On my 99 the pump sits on top of the front right fender under the hood. But you certainly have a vacuum problem.
