LAST EDITED ON 13-Oct-01 AT 00:04 AM (EST)[p]I have an f150 supercrew 4x4. ASked to tow stuff for my kids Pop Warner football, dual axle trailer. The Trans seems to tug/pulse when towing and especially @ 40mph. I slowed down and stopped trailering but wondering: is it a trailer issue; trans issue; hitch issue. Please advise, I've waited too long for this beautiful truck and will be disappointed if its a trans issue.
Thanks
Chip
i had a problem similar to that although the trailor had elec. brakes that wherent adjusted prop. i dont know if that is your prob or not but it was mine.
My concern being about the band adjustments on the tranny...
Most auto-trans boxes are spotlessly clean inside, and they HAVE to be. One tiny speck of filth getting past the filter can kill an A/T pump.
But if the band adjustment is off a bit, the crispness falls away on shifts. If one band is out, but the others are not far off yet, they can fight back and forth as if the tranny cannot make it's mind up...
This may be what you are experiencing. Consult your manual, (Real one, not the mom and pop one from the glove-box).
If the procedure seems to be beyond you, don't risk it.
The major factor is that the insides of the tranny must be absolutely surgically clean.
-As I said, one speck can kill a tranny pump. Even a tiny bit of metal in the wrong place will ruin it.
But band adjustments can be done without opening up much. Take courage, if you are confident of your abilities (as I am) I would drop the pan and try....
