coil voltage

All i can tell u is that someone told me when i did my motor swap (changed to points ignition) that i would have to put a resistor in my hot wire going to the coil to bring the voltage down to 9 volts so the points dont burn up, OK i tried it but after that it ran like crap so i took it out and it ran fine so (IN MY EXPERIANCES 12 VOLTS)

I Have Done The Same Thing I Took Out All Of The Dura Spark System Because It Would Not Match Up I Then Put In A New Point Dist. And I Have Always Heard That I Needed To Cut The Voltage To The Coil. Your Coil Dosent Get Hot?

Coils run on 6 volts. The resister is to bring the voltage down to the proper level. The second small connector on ford starter solenoids is a 12 volt supply to the coil while cranking to help it fire hotter and start better. 12 volts to the coil will burn out the coil. There are a limited amount of vehicles, mostly Internationals, that did run 12 volt coils.

the TFI coil (square) gets full voltage during starting and running. The duraspark2 coil (round) gets full voltage only during starting,resistor voltage only when running.
i have a TFI coil on my Duraspark2 system. some have reported blowing out ignition modules but i havent yet in almost a year since i converted to DS2.
