DR..i did it so long ago i cant remember but i think that on my 96 there were a few screws holding in place..i know there is a metal bracket that holds it in place and you will need to take your glove box out i believe to remove the wire that goes to your cigarette lighter...try that and the bracket i had i just put my CB in the bracket and put the bracket right back in the spot...i havent had a problems. so just mess around with it cuz its worth putting it in the ashtray spot.

Ok, I'll go thru the glove box ... I'm planning to use the cig lighter wire for power ... Is that what you did? Did you get any ignition static thru that feed?
Thanks, DR
I have a 92 XLT, and my CB sits nicely under the existing ashtray, and just over the carpet on the tranny hump. The CB hangs from a bracket that is mounted right under the ashtray. There are some holes down there for screws. Nothing had to be cut, removed or mangled.
If I take a pic with my digital camera can I get it on this site for all to see, or do I have to e-mail it privately?? I got my avatar on here, but have never tryed to get attachments or pics included in my thread, or replies. I have been here 2 years now and still don't know how to use this site!
Before I get any further, I do not have any shifters, my truck is a 4x2 auto, and maybe the CB doesn't fit so well in 4x4's
I'll try taking a pic/posting tommorrow, I just ran out to the truck and looked at my set up. I was wrong, there are no holes to mount anything below the ashtray, however, there is a good piece of metal just below the ashtray that will secure metal screws. It has been 4 years since I mounted the Cb, I had to go out and see what I did. I positioned the bracket, marked 4 bracket holes, and drilled thru the plastic and about 1/4 inch above the plastic you hit the metal frame(chassis) of the dashboard assy., I driiled thru the chassis frame and set up the bracket with 4 self-tapping metal screws. The CB mounted up nice, allowing the ashtray to go in/out, and the CB is within reach.
BTW.. the ashtray comes out if you press upwards on the metal tab that is on the centerline, to the rear and above the ashtray assy. There is a plastic tab on the back of the tray that stops when it hits the metal tab.
First you have to host the PIC! go here: http://tinypic.com/ It's free.
Once it gives you the link, copy it!
Click on post reply, Click on insert image (little postcard with PIC of mountain and yellow back ground), then paste the link in the box that opened and your pretty much done!

and about using the cigarette lighter as a power source...i didnt have to because on my 96 there is another outlet for power...but i suppose you could rig something up.. you can see my power source right next to my CB in the pics. maybe you can rig something up like that
FWIW, I have a 95 F150, stick shift with the split seat. With a piece of cardboard I copied the contour of the seat, then transferred this to two pieces of plywood-maybe 1/2 inch by 3 by 8. With the contour cut out I made a 3 sided box that the CB fit in and a cross piece on the bottom that bolted to the frame of the seat. The CB is then right there between the seats and is low enough that when the honey slides over she won't hit it. I have a small speaker right behind the seat, and just ran power and antenna leads. Hasn't fallen off yet after almost 10 years of bouncing down dirt roads and freeways.
The front of the box has clips for the mike. Thought about a clip for the
cell phone but then some yahoo would call me.
Fordtruckguy ...
Thanks for the info & the pics .... Will let you know how mine works out ... What was that white stuff on the roads shown in your pics ... Snow?
Regards, DR in Dallas
some of the pics are from this past winter and yes there is snow...but i dont have any pics where there is snow on the roads...maybe what you are referring to is what the roads look like after they have had loads of salt dumped on them after years and years and they are just all beat up. these roads arent smooth at all. Probably have nice smooth roads in dallas but i love New Hampshire. someday i hope to travel out that way to see what its like
Fordtruckguy ...
I was trying to tease you about the truck killing weather up there. No snow - no salt down here but ... Down here, the sun peels the paint off your truck, seats & dashs fade, crack, get brittle, tires dry rot, batteries explode and fail in two years, a/c failure is common, radiators, hoses split & fail, windshilds crack ... The sun is murder, but no rust!
Regards, DR
ok i have a CB in my truck that has an external PA switch on it. and i noticed there was a small speaker mounted on the fire wall. i asked the previous owner about it and he said it was for the alarm he had on it. is there a way to possiably hook that speaker to the cb so i can yell at people who jay walk and make me slam on my breaks..LOL Thanks Guys
