For all that are having trouble with the vacuum for four wheel drive beware that it might be a sign that your hub(s) are going out. Would be a good idea to check them out and see if they are blowing grease. My '99 F-350 left front hub finally went out while I was driving down the highway. $700.00 later(one hub only) my truck is back on the road. Not only did the hub go out but when it did it got so hot that it welded one of the caliper bolts to the caliper and messed up the caliper bracket. Not a fun experience since I was 200+ miles from home when it happened. Just thought that this could be some good info. for you guys to check on. Crappy part of the deal is that the hubs are a sealed unit so you have to replace the whole hub and you can't perform any maintaince on them. If the dealership is full of it about that I hope someone will chime in and let me know so that I can prevent it from happening to the right front hub!

Had the same thing happen to me last week. I had to replace both sides. Did it myself so it only set me back $700 total. But this was about 10K miles after replacing all 4 ball joints. I asked the question about over size tires possible causing this or if any one else was having similar problems but received no response. I went back to stock tires when I replaced the ball joints and at the time did not notice any problem with the hubs. After owning 5 Jeeps for the past 15 years I have a habit of checking wheel bearing at every tire rotation. That is how I found out that both hubs were bad. I caught it early so lucky for me I was able to fix it at the house. I hope that the over size tires were the reason this happened and not the fact that the DANA 50/60 cannot handle the stress of the extra weight of the 7.3L.

h8pavement,
Don't think it was the oversized tires as my truck has never had them on it! I don't know what actually causes it, but can't do any maintence on them so I guess we are S.O.L.!! How hard was it to change them out? I've ordered one for the right side and want to do it myself this time, but not really sure what all it intales. Thanks,
