rancho rsx shocks

thinking of ordering a set up and have read on other posts that you might want the 9000x's on the rear for pulling heavy loads.anyone know why the self adjusters wouldent be just fine??? dont they compensate for weight?
my truck is a 4x4 v10 with 3.73 gears and the heavest thing i pull on a regularly is a 6000lb sled trailer.
thanks for your input
pete

I replaced the original schocks with the Rancho self adjusters, they were fine. I do very little towing so I though the self adjusters would be fine.

Dont waste your money I have had all the Ranchos and was never impressed, spend a few more bucks and get the BILSTIENS, they are designed for your specific truck, Ranchos are a one size fit all

cc322,

just adding my 2 cents...

I have the ranchos and like them... For towing I turn up the dials and maintain good handling and greater sense of stability with a setting at 6--8. I can adjust down a bit for family trips with lots of luggage, and move to an even lower setting if I wish for day to day commuting (when I am only one in vehicle) I prefer a stiffer rather than spongey ride.
I only have to make changes 6-8 times a year... but I like having options.. I have had mine over a year and still like them..

dont forget the helwig rear anti-sway bar!

good luck with whatever you may choose.. Any high quality truck shock is better than stock

Very cool you like your shocks, I liked mine when they were new as well BUT over the long run the gas preassure in the Bilstien will hold up longer then the oil shock in the Ranchos. The Ranchos will begin to fade over time and as they heat up from towing to just plain driving, where the bilstiens will resist fade alot better and hold up under extreeme conditions. I used to buy nothing but Ranchos until alot of peeps said try the bilstiens and I was sold. just my 02. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I just had my adjustable Rancho shocks installed two weeks ago and fing them very comfortable. I took a 1500 mile trip with the family last week and the ride was tremendously better than the stock ride.

If I have to replace my $200+ Rancho investment in two or three years (if they begin to "fade") and get the Bilstiens I will still be very happy. I think I am like most folks and do not tow significantly and do not drive in "extreme conditions".

Based on my limited mileage with the Ranchos and user reviews I think the average family user will be pleased over time.
