Automatic Transmission Temperature Gauge

What's the best location to install the sender on an automatic transmission temperature gauge? I assume you would want it at the hottest point in the system, but where would that be? Auto-meter has several gauges to 250°F, is that sufficient?

I have an '88 F-250 4x4 460 C6 it has lines from the AT to the side of the radiator and to a cooler in front of the radiator.

Thanks, Paul

The hottest point will be unaccessible to the gauge sender(in the torque converter). I would put the sender in the pan since it is at the lowest pressure and the easiest location to get to. My second choice would be in the line to the cooler if that is possible (it will depend on the sender's size and shape), either way you will get a good to average reading.

Good Luck,
Randy
