hi everyone i gotta 87 f-150 and it seems like the inline fuel pump is leaking only when i use the rear tank it looks like gas is dripping from it where it goes together. Only drips when under pressure and only when using the rear tank. Is there a easy fix?
Some thoughts; is it possible that it is a connector leak running down to pump joint? if not, you will have to replace in High pressure pump unit, which is easier than replacing in-tank unit.
The reason it only leaks on rear punp could be the rear pump is putting out slightly more pressure than front which should not be a problem. You should have fuel pump pressure checked to be sure regulator is not going bad - this will check output of high pressure pump and plan on checking after replacing HP pump also. Just get a FP gauge and hook to Schrader valve on fuel rail. Good luck.
The only real way to know for sure is just to get under there, drop the tank, or however you want to get to the tank and see where shes leakin from. Theres prolly a few different places it can be, ie. corroded lines, bad o-rings in the connections, etc. Mine does that too and I cannot tell where its coming from with the tank in there so my only option is to pull the pig. Godd luck with that.
