Intermitent ticking
I have a 99' Mercury with the 302 v8. After some highway driving tonight I am noticing some deep intermitent ticking @ idle when outside of the truck. It comes and goes but seems to have a consistant rythm to it. I don't here it when I rev the engine though. Since this winter I have noticed a ticking upon startup that would last about 3-4 seconds after startup when cold but then go away.
Any ideas or anbody heard this same thing?

sounds like a stuck lifter. hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge i bet its really low at idle which would explain the ticking. how many miles on motor. I also thought they stoped using that motor in 97
