Any of you guys ever hear of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4? I think the car itself is quite ugly but the engineering that went into this thing is amazing. The crankshaft alone must have been designed by supercomputers! It sports a W16 engine with 1001 HP output! BTW, it has 4 turbochargers
Even if you've heard of this car, there is an incredible animation buried on their web site showing among other things how the W16 engine is constructed. It is a truly amazing animation, a lot of work went into it. The whole site is Flash so I can't just link to it though, you'll have to follow the directions below.
Go to www.bugatti-cars.de
Choose "English".
Along the top, click on "Models"
Choose "Veyron 16.4"
Choose "Engineering"
Choose "Engine"
Along the bottom, choose "Legends from 1001 HP"
There are 7 video segments. If you don't want to watch them all watch 2 and 3 for the engine animations and 6 for the Turbochargers.
A year or so ago I never thought the Veyron would see the light of day. I figured with all that power, that mind-boggling engine, AWD, 7-speed sequential transmission and all that it was a pipe dream. Not to mention all the issues with cooling, high-speed stability and numerous delays. But this months issue of CAR shows the factory/assembly area and it looks like it's a go. I guess the "Can the Veyron really happen" question will be answered as soon as the first cars reach their new owners.
And I assume you know of thei EB110, right? One of the best supercars ever made. Period.
