While at Sears to take advantage of "interest free till October on 4 new tires" sale ( BTW I purchased 4 new Michelin XCL T4 - what a difference from the cheap tires I always purchase!) , I queried into how much a Radius Arm Bushing job would cost. 3 years ago I was quoted about $780 at the Mazda Dealer.
Quoted : Radial Arm Bushing Kit 45.99 x 2 = 91.98
Labor 92.00 x 2 = 184.00
Alignment 64.99 x 1 = 64.99
______
Total 363.14 (includes Tax)
I aw going to follow up on this by talking to their "specialist" to ask some questions : "what procedure do you follow" , "what is in the 'kit'"...
I think this may be a bagain for someone who has not attempted front end work...
...and at $80 a tire I want this done to preserve the tires...sears does free balancing and rotation for the life of these tires.
What other questions should I ask and what are your thoughts on getting this done at a Sears Auto Store ?
I've replaced the radius arm bushing on my truck about 2yrs ago. I was quoted $180 to do it from the local Firestone( just to replace one). It took me less then 2hrs to replace it myself and the part was only like $20 from the local parts store.
You can call any local parts store in your area and get a price on just the bushing. All it is-is a big rubber bushing with a big washer. Most shops mark up the price of parts big time..and they get them at a discounted rate from the same local parts store. Then they rip ya with labor costs.
A big AMEN to that Help...I find it very amusing to get a quote and then check into the parts myself just to see how big of a jump they are making on the markup. I once found a 400% markup. This is why I now try to do as much as possible on my own rig. I have nothing against people trying to make money, but robbery is another story. I once sent my wife to the dealer with our 03 Explorer to get a couple things checked out. They wanted to charge her, on a car with only 12,000 miles. I took it in the next day to have the same things checked out and suddenly all was well. I feel for the elderly and the unmechanical single female. You know they gouge the heck out of them.
About the radius arm bushing....if you decide to do it yourself by a Haynes or Chiltons<----- I prefer them. They are usually pretty good about walking you step by step through it.
