Exclamation Stock Airfilter Replacement

I can't believe that Ford put a airfilter/Assembly that cost nearly $200 to replace. I went to my Ford dealer for LOF and they said that the air filter was about due for change. I asked to see how bad it was. The tech said that Ford suggests to replace at 30k miles. When I asked how much they would charge he said $235. I decided that I would go to Autozone and pick it up and they wanted $185 there?????? I looked at our sponsors web site for a aftermarket assembly any suggestions and more importantly has anyone had any warranty issues with Ford by having changed to a aftermarket filter assembly??

You can order a stock replacement from Oilguard for about $50, (great prices on oil and fuel filters too) read the replacement procedure tech note in the Tech Folder and do it yourself in less than a hour.

Thanks I will look into that. What about a re-useable type? I know the initial investment is more $$ but in the long run I would be saving $$ However "warranty" issue I hear that Ford is really picky on intake and exhaust on the 6.0 ???

I Would Never Use A Washable Air Filter On Any Turbo Charged Engine Too Much Engine Dammage Caused It Is Ok On Naturally Aspirated Engines Though

I changed my stock filter at 32K miles--knocked over a pound of sand/dirt out of it and my filter minder never had moved. I also had run an airaid box but felt the filtration wasn't as good as the stock box. Also, K&N's hp gain chart shows that most of their filter's gain is way up in the RPM range--far faster than most will ever drive their trucks. I couldn't tell a significant gain in mileage. The stock filter is made by Donaldson--the EXPERTS in turbo filtration. There are websites where you can buy a non-motorcraft exact replacement donaldson filter for your 6.0 for about 37 dollars--or you can spend the extra for the motorcraft name. IMHO--for the average driver and most modders the aftermarket's just ain't worth it on this motor. You can buy about 6 maybe 7 filter replacements for the price of ONE aftermarket (for which you won't get nearly as good filtration), change them every 30K miles and get 210K miles of SUPER clean air for the same money. Most probably won't even keep their trucks this long?? Also--I'm running the zoodad mod which makes my filter more "exposed" to the daily elements and have never had ANY trouble with it.

I had to replace my air filter at 10K! I bought it at O-Rilleys for 70.00. My dealer told me to abosolutley not use a K&N ! They said that the oil from the filter will coat the sensors in the intake and cause false readings to the computer! I have one in my wifes 02 Explorer and they didn't much like it.J

checked my filter couple of hours ago:
filter and seemed still fine, hardly and discoloration.
Checked the filter minder and also worked.
examed the housing and seemed to seal good also.

guess highway miles and almost no towing will help long filter life
or
filter was changed and i don't remember it, possibly by the dealer.

I can't believe it either! We charge our customers $98 at the dealer for the filter, installation extra of course. As for installing another brand or type... Why? The Donaldson filter that was designed specifically for this truck and engine is superior to all others. If it were my $8,000 engine the stock filter is the one I would install.

I make my living building equipment to test filters--both oil and air. The stock Donaldson filter is far superior to any aftermarket filter offered. Do not foresake the original filter to save a few bucks.

By the way, my original filter has over 50K miles. Air filters actually get better (filtration) as they collect dirt. Yes, the restriction does climb a small amount--that is what the filter minder is monitoring. Don't change that expensive (but valuable) filter until you need to.

I ordered my Oilguard fuel and air filters yesterday and received them today.

Good price, good filters, and fast delivery, what more can you ask for

Are you saying that Oil Guard or Filter 1 carry the OEM filter (Donaldson) for the 6.0??

We purchase all of our equipment filters from NAPA. Napa sells the OEM replacement for the 6.0 for $49.00. And i can say that it is as good as the Motorcraft. My NAPA sales rep brought me a pamphlet and it read as follows

New 6.0 liter Powertrap replacements

Less restrictive during harsh conditions
performs better in high humidity
pleated media filter=better air flow
1/3 price of OE replacement filters
significantly reduces blocking of air to engine caused by snow and water ingestion
43% more capacity than other replacement filters

Application: 2003-2005 Ford super duty f -Series
F-250, 350, 450, and excursions with a 6.0 liter turbo diesel engines

complete kit- #4490: contains 1 upper/ lower housing, 4" Powertrap Filter and inlet duct.

powertrap replacement filter #9490. is $15.00

kit will be available next month, so I am told. I wish I could post a pic of the kit, but the filter looks like the one from the 7.3 powerstroke. rectangular in shape. do not know price of kit as of yet but am told not much. It is made by VISTEON. you can check out their website. Does anybody have experience with this kit????
