Rear main leak

Rear main seal on 87 6.9. Is it possible to replace it from the rear of the engine without dropping the oil pan completely? I have the cab off the truck and the bellhousing off so I have plenty of access to the rear of the motor. Do you just pull the plate off the back and replace it? Any tricks? Thanks

Get the Ford kit and it comes with a speedy sleeve, rear seal and installation tool, no need to disturb the pan at all unless leaking somewhere. You will need to get specific (permatex aviation #3) sealant required to seal flywheel bolt threads and Sp Slv, R seal to cover space.

Just finished doing it and it was a major pain in the but. Even though I had the ford kit the tool couldn't get it to go in straight so I ended up putting it in with a small rubber mallet. Just right before it is in get the tool to put it on the rest of the way.
