injector driver module???

My 99 with a 2002 7.3 started running rough yesterday. I got two codes: CPS which I changed today and P1316= injector driver module codes detected. What is this module and how can I check it. I fueled-up the night before it started running bad so I'm wondering if I got bad fuel. Anybody have any info??? Thanks in advance.

I take it the cam sensor didn't fix it.

Several thngs can cause an IDM code, I'd start by checking all the wiring harness' related to the injectors firing to include the PCM harness (big connector under the master cylinder with a 10mm bolt holding it in), the harness at the IDM (remove the driver side inner fender to access) and the harness to the injectors at both valvecovers. The fact that it still runs may suggest that one of the valvecover harness' is burned and the truck is only running on 4 cylinders....may want to start there.

A new IDM is pricey, so you'll want to be thorough with the wiring.

Well....If you don't have a choice then you don't have a choice, and maybe it is a load of bad fuel if the codes were thrown immediately after fueling. Personally, I would try to work something else out until I had a better grasp of what was going on.

How rough is rough running? Is it a minor annoyance kind of thing, or is it stumbling hard and belching smoke and things of that nature?

It's not running terrible, but I notice it. there is a loss of acceleration I can notice, but no smoke or hard jerking. I stepped on it and noticed a little more smoke (black but not jet black). As far as fuel, I fueled up, drove home(5 miles) and parked it. next morning it started just fine, but when I came back out of the house it was running rough and service engine soon light was on.

yes I have driven it. Had to get to work yesterday and it was bad. left it at home today, got home and changed cps. Ran better after cps swap. I did clear codes several times with my predator. cps code gone but idm still there. One other thing, twice yesterday as I drove the service engin light went off and i could feel it run smoother. Happened once in morning and once in evening just for a second or 2. tonight i drove it abbout 10 miles to the truck stop to get some additive.

Thank you for all your help. this site is great!!!!!!!!!

I'd bet you have a harness going out at one of the valvecovers.

could you explain "a harness" going out. the entire harness (all wires, just plug) or a single wire in the harness? sorry not understanding

theres a set of wires with wireloom with red tape on it theres one that goes into each valve cover, follow that to each cover, check connections at cover and under cover. the VC gasket is reusable so you dont have to worry bout having a new one.

When you disconnect the harness ends at the valve covers you will likely find a single burned pin either on the external connector or the plug that pases thrugh the valvecover. There might also be a problem on the under the valvecover side, the early PSD's had an unreliable locking device on the harness connector under the valvecover, and your 99 may not have the updated locks.

EDIT: oops, you said the engne is an 02...it has the good locks.

Check all the fuses while your under the hood.....the fuel heater might have burned up and shorted out too, but it sounds more like a harness to me.

I just replaced my gaskets and harness on both sides on Tuesday. Parts from International were 140$ for both sides. I think the gaskets were 60 for the pair and 40 each for the harnesses. Took me about 5 hours to do both sides without really any problems. Stealership wanted 700 to do it and another 800 for the IDM swap out. My IDM appears to be good after the harness change, not giving any codes now.
