Hi There, got a question for those of you who have Toyboxes and F350's.
I have an '05 F350 4x4, LB, CC, Diesle. I also have four full size quads and a couple of bikes plus the gear, etc.
We were looking at a few Weekend Warriors the other day, almost bought one but I'd like to ask: What size do I have to have to properly fit everything in. The other thing is weight. I do not want to get pulled over and be overweighted. I live in Southern Ca. Might travel to other areas but not too far. I dont think.
I prefer to get a 5th wheel type with a rear bedroom. The bedroom pop out looks good but probably adds alot more weight.
Loking for opinions from you, I know there has to be a bunch out there that haul what I have. What do you think?
I go to the dunes with alot of guys with toy boxes (I sleep in the back of my truck) and have seen some similar situations. If you think about it, a quad is basically about 6' long and about 4' wide (at least that's what my Banshee is). So you'll need a cargo area of at least 15' to accomodate the quads, the other 2 dirt bikes, and various gear (although if you get a 5th wheel, you can store the gear in the bedroom up front). Width won't be an issue, you'll be able to fit them in there side by side easily. Anyways, I wouldn't worry about weight too much, I see TONS of guys coming from Cali with some pretty huge rigs and they never have any problems with the local authorities (at least everyone that I've talked to). My brother in law has a 25' toy box (tongue pull) and could probably get 4 quads in it but it would be pretty cramped. There's a ton of room in there though. I would suggest going to your local dealership and start looking around for the different models that will accommodate your setup. Take some measurements at home (maybe set everything together in the driveway) and then weigh your options from there. Weekend Warriors are pricey but are worth the money. Good luck!
I would get the biggest you can pull and afford. It's like buying your F350; you choose to buy it instead of a F250, Why? My point is: If you ever decide to get a buggy or more quads, you won't want the trailer to be the limiting factor.
We were looking at the 40 footer that had two pop outs. Now im thinking somewhere between the 33-40'. But I remember somewhere on a forum, just don't remember where, that someone got a ticket for towing with a F350-a toybox and that his weight was too much. Seems like it was a crazy amount like $3000.00. Might have been in another state, maybe back east.
Looking for someone that has a 30-40' WW Toybox that loads it up with what I have above (or close to it). Are you over weight? Close too it when full of water/gas, etc?
Would like a bedroom pop out but that might be too much extra weight.
We also would like too use it at other times just as a trailer and not haul any atv's\bikes, and have alot of room.
JCD, a buddy of mine has a CC Cebby diesel, he tows a 40' X(I forgot the brand) triple axle. With a 4 seat buggy, Banshee, a couple of kid quads and NO water. He weighs in at 18,500lbs. He gets water in Brawley. Hope this helps.
Max towing for F450s and under is about 15.5k reguardless of engine or gearing.
The average 28~30ft will only haul three adult atvs. You"ll need about 40ft to get all those toys in one rig.
Rear bedroom in a toy hauler? Never seen or heard of one.
I have a 39'6" Jayco Talon with the rear garage. It has a 15' pop out, front bed room. the garage is 8' by 12'. I have two 400ex's that I can put side by side with no problem, because the trailer is a wide body 102" wide, or one in front of the other, and I still have room to put a bike sideways behind the four quads. If I stood four quads up I could easly get a couple of bikes in the back. I have a 01 f350 and live in CA never been pulled over. trailer weights 12,100 dry, wet between 15k to 16k. With your 05 you should be rated to 19k.
I have a 30' Weekend Warrior. Its way big enough, 4 quads, no problem. Any bigger you will have trouble in some camp grounds. I have seen some monstrous sized toyboxes around lately, holy cow. Like pulling a semi trailer! If you were camping someplace where you were stuck inside all the time I guess that would be nice, but lets face it, usually spend all your time outside and just sleep inside. I dont think big is always better. I have the F350 to pull it and it does with ease. I am at about my legal limit though when the tanks are full and I am loaded. You might get away with pulling a 40 footer around with a 350 but seriously you might think about getting a tow vehicle at least F550 or bigger...
I just want enough room for all the bikes, gas, stuff, etc. and not be overloaded or having to put all the quads standing up. Maybe I would stand two up but would rather not.
I am going to take the suggestion and line everything up on the driveway and measure. Couple of my quads have extened swingarms and a-arms.
I get a little confused when looking at the weight limits, what I have, what I'm allowed.
I usually get a little more than I need when I buy something knowing I would wish I had later. Just want to stay legal.
