U Joint advice

I'm about to replace the rear drive shaft U joints on my '92. Any tips and/or advice from the readers? I have a Haynes manual but I'd appreciate some real world inout.

Thanks

U-joints can be easy or really hard. just depends on how bad of shap they are in. If you get to a point that you can get them off the drive saft because they are so stuck. remember you can take the whole shaft to a shop and get them to use a press. They will not charge you much cause you did all the work.

The double cardon U-joint requires a little extra time and patience considering the fact that the centering mechanism needs to be held in place while the second cardon is installed. Grease the slip joint while you are in there.

Also clean out the seats for the U-Joint spider cups with some fine emery or so then grease them when you install the news ones. It'll make life much easier when you next have to replace them.

Also be very careful when you install the cups making sure non of the rollers fall over and lie in the bottom of the cup or you'll never git it all to fit.

Most books say use a vice to seat/ remove the cups but I find it much easier to hold the prop shaft in the vice and use a G/C clamp to push them out and trying to hold the prop shaft under your arm whilst holding everyhing else in place is hard work!
