I have an 88 F-150 and the vacuum line leading to the modulator valve is full of transmission fluid and i want to replace the valve, can anyone tell me how to identify whether the transmission in the truck is a C-4 or a C-6. I also would like to know of any tips on replacing the valve.
Make sure you get the right valve. There are several with different colored stripes depending on your driving habits and how you want it to shift. Ask when you buy the valve.
Also, you will get quite a bit of fluid out when you pull the valve. If you park downhill and jack up the rear of the vehicle as high as you can, you can minimize the fluid loss. Make sure you use jack stands if you raise the rear.
