The ones I used to buy.....(shhhhh)....... back in the eighties were "directional". The openings were stamped open in V shape. This way if you installed them backwards, you basically had a straight pipe because everything would flow past the opening, basically rendering the packing useless.
See, back when I was young/dumb.........and I had my '70 F100-302/4 spd I had headers/cherry bombs and a pair of 2" stacks running up thru the bed. Man, did it make your presence KNOWN!!!! Wind it up in any gear and let'r goooooooooo!!! Oh lordy did she make noise. It sure was cool back then!
And you ask: What's changed????????? nothing!!! LOL!!
The toys just got more expensive and LOUDER!

Cam? Crower solid tappet, bout .65 lift @ 260/270 @.05
Don't let the hist. license tags fool you too bad. It's not too street legal right now, even if I put mufflers on it. Need to get brakelights working again. The block is 3/4 filled so overheating would be a major issue if I traveled too far with it.
There is a cruise-in just a couple miles from house every Sunday. Been thinkin' maybe to rig it up and cruise it down. That would be a quick trip!! Gotta watch though, the local fuzz likes to sit around the sides and watch for burnouts and "wreckless op's". They aren't always there, but do make surprise visits.

Yup, '59 Mack, 673 Mack diesel, triplex (15 spd).
Six niner, I don't plan on Columbus(Labor day) this year cause the NMCA bought it out and it doesn't look like much of a "nostalgia" type FOrd show. Mostly mustang and fast car stuff. Bummer, friends and I usually have a pretty good, relaxing weekend. Might go to Fun Ford at Norwalk this year(have not been there since bout '98).
