engine feed back on 4.6 litre
anybody have feedback on the 4.6 litre engine? good... bad... other problems?
I did have some concerns about top end wear with an overhead cam engine that is started and stopped frequently, so I put a pre-oiler on it. This is a race item that works like a well pressure tank, and supplies up to a quart of pressurized oil if the pressue should fall or before cranking the engine.
Possibly overkill, as I haven't seen others having cam or valve train wear as a problem.
Overhead cam engines are generally considered better and more modern, although they have fallen out of favor because they cost more to build, and are slightly less compact (push rod engines tuck the cam down within the block). These are problems for the manufacturer, not us.
The Triton V8's are recognized among the best engines built anywhere in the world.
PS: I should mention that two of the COPs (Coil on plug) have failed on my truck. It's a lousy place to put a coil, but the engineers had good reason for doing this. I think the new parts are tougher, and at least when they fail you're never stranded; usually the SES light goes on when the problem is barely noticeable. That, and a DPFE sensor, have been my only problems.
