My truck has been running a little off lately and I cant seem to find the culprit. Ive been narrowing down the possibilites (changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, O2 censer, seafoam, etc) and i think a fuel presssure test is the next thing that is in order. What all is needed to do this and what is the exact procedure. Im learning as i go so can anyone help explain this to me in terms a dummy can understand. Thanks in advance,
jordan
You need a Fuel Pressure Gauge. AutoZone can lend you one, or you can purchase one for about $40. Once you have the gauge, hook it onto the Shrader valve on the driver side fuel rail.
Once the gauge is hooked to the valve, turn the engine on.
-For a V-8, the pressure should be ~35PSI idling.
-For the I-6, it should be ~55PSI.
