what oil filter should i be running on my 292? it has the thread on set-up..... and also does anybody know who still caries new mastercylinders? ive tried three from autozone and all three now have been wrong.
Autozone's replacement parts made in China. Wondered why their rear brake cylinders for 65 were only $16 apiece. I went with p/s upgrade and purchase the new replacement master cylinder from local NAPA dealer for $44, no exchange necesssary. Suggest starting there. If looking for replacement, Dennis Carpenter carries them. Suggest going to their web page and review thier online catalog to find out cost.

The filter should be a Wix 51515 or equivalent. Fram is a PH8A (but I wouldn't use a Fram on my mother-in-law's car), ACDelco is a PFL1A. Just ask for "the big Ford filter", most decent parts stores will know what you mean! If they are really dense, ask for a filter to fit a mid 80's F150. Even the Zoners can look that up! Also, a quality remanufactured master cylinder is just as good as a new one, and certainly better than the offshore hooey from the Zone. I sell and install A-1 Cardone, a Philadelphia-based national reman distributor, and have very little problem with the line as a whole. NAPA relabels a lot of A-1 as their own, and share part numbers on a lot of things. Hope this helps, TomD ASE certified parts specialist
DONT go buy a Fram and put it on you prized possesion. You need a Motorcraft FL1A. Wix would be decent. AC is a good product if you want a GM product on your Ford. Purolator's top of the line Gold I believe is rated high. Other than that you could shell out $11 and get a Mobil1 which is very good, but like a lot of expensive "high perfomance" automotive products they are overkill. Really it all boils down to one thing.
You can get Motorcraft filters thru Advance Auto parts for around $2-3.00 each. It's about the only parts I'd buy thru them as most of thier stuff is Chinese crap.
Wix would be "decent"? Greg, I trust Wix to filter close to a half-million dollars worth of farm equipment that I rely on to make a living and pay for my truck habit. everything from our Ford lawnmower to our New Holland combine sucks air and fluids through Wix filters..... and I have never had a problem in ten years. I agree that Fram ain't so hot, but ACDelco makes a decent filter, regardless of their association with GM. SInce Motorcraft filters are OEM, a lot of guys buy them for their Fords just like the Chevy guys demand ACDelco. Cut open a batch of new filters, and see who's big Ford filter looks like something you would trust on YOUR baby. You could even go to your local NAPA, they used to have a filter display showing an actual 1515 NAPA Gold (which is manufactured by Wix), and a Fram PH8A.... at least we had them five years ago when I worked for NAPA.....
OK! Wix RULES everyone. Go buy Wix. At least most of us agree that Fram is crap. Also speaking of Chinese crap I bought a wheel cylinder from Autozone. I didn't think a product line called Brakeware by a company out of PA would have Made in China in small print. Well it did. I guess I forgot that we sold our great industrial nation down the river along with the large population of middle class workers. What a shame! Anyhow this fine product made by outsorced labor LEAKS out of the bag. At first I thought I had left something loose or whatnot but not the case. There must be a hairline crack in the housing as it seeps slowly. Both cups are dry. Now I get to do the job again. Maybe I can hire a Mexican to put on my Chinese parts twice for the price of once and it will all ballance out....
