have been wanting here for a long while to get me a real truck. and i am obiously gonna get a f150 or 250 older version. first things i want to do is put in a 351 clev. now my dad is really strict about me speding my money and i want to have everything planned out real we'll before i deceide on everything. my boss knows a guy who can custom build engines real we'll and i think i will have him build a brand new engine with perfomrance parts. now i would like a turbo and maybe nos... see the big thing is to be able to out pull my dads diesel ford with a little v8 . now what parts would you recommend for the trubo and nos set up? also what brand heads/pistons etc. would you recommend. thanks for the help guys as you can proabbly tell i am nto very knowlageable that is why i am gonna have someone else ghuild it and i will just install and play thanks

clevelands are great motors, but I think you will be spending massive amounts of money to get it to outpower a diesel. I have a friend that stroked his and put keith black pistons in it ($700 a set) ended up being a 383 I think. but he spent around $3500 on it. good luck though I will be interested in seeing what others post.
to outpwer a diesel is going to be a big task, and also to out pull. im sure your dad's diesel has a lot more weight than u, right off the bat, which will help him to hook - up.. also a diesel is a very torquey motor, with a lot of low end grunt.
the mods you are talking about are going to be effective with a higher powerband, over 3500 rpms or so, where as your dad has power at 1500 or 2000 dependsing on his motor, not to mention you have much less displacement.
in my opinion you will have to spend a lot of money to outperform a diesel, and even if you do manage to get more power, he will have a weight advantage...
if you are on a budget, depending on the truck you buy, I would go with an f250, and go with a 460....remember, there is no replacement for displacement.....

my dad has the 04' 6.3L, i belive 6.3 or is it 6.2
theres a 6.0 and 7.3 diesel. Let me offer some realistic insight. A 351c isn't going to outpull a new psd. They have 560ftlbs off toruqe just off idle. And as for using a turbo or nos on a 351c, just forget about that. use the 351c if you can find one and make a sport truck. The 351c is much better suited for a sporty truck versus a stump puller.
But if you insist on pulling the 400,428,460 have the longest stroke of fords in that order. It it will take extensive mods and i honestly think the diesel will still outpull most combos. The 460's is the best choice as for parts availibility.
p.s build a sport truck using the 351c because that is a lot funner. A 4v headed 351c with a mild dual pattern cam will run circles around most other trucks.

Diesels have tons of low end torque, v-8 gasoline engines have less low end torque and more high end horsepower. Torque is what starts a load moving, horsepower maintains a constant speed. These can be two very different worlds. If you want to race, then you need all the horsepower you can get and that means v8 gasoline. If you want to haul heavy loads or pull up stumps, then you need low end torque and that is where the diesel shines. Economy may be a consideration. Around here, diesel costs more than regular unleaded gasoline. I know one contractor who has parked his diesel and is now driving a gasoline powered truck becuase it gets better fuel mileage.
