Front end shimmy

I hit railroad tracks fairly hard today and the front end of my 92 F150 2WD 5.0L started to shimmy back and forth. It was the first time it had ever done that. For the rest of the day whenever I would hit a pothole the front end would shake back and forth. It'll stop if I slow down. I'm not too familiar with suspension and steering components so if anyone has an idea what could be wrong please reply soon. Thanks

Your steering linkage needs to be replaced. You have a worn tie-rod end or Drag Link. They are easy to replace but do need special tools that are available at any large auto supply store. You will need to take the truck into a shop to have the front end aligned when your finished.

Before you condem or replace any parts make sure they are defective . I assume the shake & shimmy problem wasnt there before you hit the railroad tracks ? Its more likely you either knocked some wheel weights off or possibily bent a rim . If the tie rods were bad you would have noticed some uneven tire wear & or handling problems before the train track incident . Do you have aluminum or steel rims ?

I've had no problems with the front end until today. It drives fine unless I hit a pothole or some other bad spot in the road. The rims aren't factory, they are Ultra custom wheels, aluminum I guess.
