Im looking at getting 35s for my F150 and i was looking at a number of differnt tires. I want tires that are good offroad especially in the mud but have to wear good and go on the road daily. I was looking at Thornbirds, SSR radials, Dick cepeck funcounrty and some others whats the best one or do you have other suggestions?
i strongly recommend the Maxxis Buckshots. i have a set of 35's on my PSD and I love them.... not to mention they only ran me about $120 a piece.
i would stay way way way WAY far away from thornbirds.... they are horrible and they SUCK! SSR's are great but they are a bit expensive. and the fun country's (from what i hear) they gum up and slick up as quickly and as bad as mickeys!
also i would strongly suggest swapping in a straight axle up front so you dont have alignment issues, ttb's are notorious for killing big meats and big meats are notorious for killing ttb's lol
Maxxis like cutts said. Same thing as BFG, only about 45% less cost. DO NOT GET PROCOMPS. Every tire my friend has owned on his bronco has been pro comp, and everyone has had some funny lookin sidewall bubbles. Dont get the dick cepecks, they are way over-priced.
Where ever you get them from, whether it be online or a tire shop, make sure that they have a 'road hazard' warranty in case a 'curb' or 'import' becomes a 'road hazard' and causes the inner treads to break, thus causing the above sidewall bubbles.
Go with the buckshots; cheaply priced tire, good wear, and good O-R.
I would highly recommend the BFG all terrain a/t...i have a set of 35" 12.50's on my bronco that has a 3 inch body lift and they work great...they kick *** on the road as well as off road in mud and sand...they also kick *** in the snow they bite right down to the road...i have been using these tires for close to 15 years now...same brand i mean and they have always worked very well...that is why i see more trucks with these tires than any other brand...even the new car companies are starting to use these bc they are such good tires...
Im not to keen on the BFGs I like the SSRs, has any one ran SSRs what do you guys think.
I had 2 sets of bfg muds, and they aren't bad, but overpriced. I will probably go with buckshots when my SSRs wear out. The SSRs are really nice. They have maybe a little more lug thump than a BFG, but are about as quiet, and pull twice as good. Pricey though. If you keep up on rotation and tire pressure, they will last. If you drive about 2000 miles a year(like I do) they will last too Overall, buckshots just look like the best value for the money.
Thornbirds are only good if you custom grove them to loosen up the lugs so they preform better offroad..other then that they wear fast for everyday driving.
BFG M/T's or A/T's are a good tire. I have a set of 35inch M/T's on my bronco II aired down to 12psi for offroading and they are excellent. A/T's are good if you do a lot of pavement driving as they wont wear as fast. As far as price goes on BFG..i got mine at BFG factory direct cost..so i saved some $$.
