1977 Crew Cab questions
This is my first post, so please be gentle! I just bought a 1977 F350 Crew cab in great shape from the original owners with 68,000 miles. The truck has an in-cab fuel tank and dual fuel tank doors in the bed. But there are no tanks in the frame...?? I am currently restoring a 1979 F100 and put in a new aft tank. I wanted to mount an aft tank in the F350, but noticed there are no frame cross members, holes, etc. to mount the tank like the F100. Any ideas why Ford did this, is the long bed, crew cab frame something different? I know the 1978 crew cab models no longer had the in-cab fuel tank and thought 1977 might be that "transitional" year.
Also, I noted a flat, large black wire harness on the driver's side where the mid-ship tank should mount. Looks like it has 8-10 female pin connectors. Any thoughts on what this was used for?

The crewcabs did not have a rear tank because of the narrow rear frame, they came with the front tank only, I have a 78 f-350 crew, it had a front tank but was removed and a tank was put in the front of the bed that I hate. there is a company, I think aerotanks? that has rear tanks for these trucks, kinda pricy though. I will probally get one of theirs. Not sure what the wire harness might be for, mine is all modified for a 5th wheel so I don't know what should be there.

Wow, I never caught that. I always assumed that the 73-79 frames were the same width. I just measured my F100 and it is 37 1/2", the F350 Crewcab is 34". I guess Ford had a reason why they had a narrower frame for the crewcab. That also explains why finding a rear bumper and receiver hitch is more of chore. Thanks for the info.
