Camshaft timing

If you was to put a camshaft in and got it off a one tooth how would the engine perform. Would it just run like crap or would it just not perform well. I Imagine it would depend on the engine right.

One tooth is how much, maybe 10 degrees?
If the camshaft were retarded by that much, the engine would probably have no low or mid range performance but would begin to run at 6000 RPM or so. If the cam were advanced by that much, the engine would be very strong off-idle and nose over long before you hit 3000. Typically when you advance or retard the cam to alter the power band of the engine, you're talking about 2-4 degrees of change. Anything much more than that would probably be undrivable
