Hi everyone,
I have a 2003 supercrew 4x4 with a 5.4 engine and I am going to replace the muffler on it soon and was leaning towards a 50 series flowmaster. My question is for those who changed the muffler on their s-crew is what muffler did you use, did you notice a change in mileage, throttle response, do you think a 50 series is too aggresive, etc. I want something that gives a nice rumble at an idle, nice rumble when driving and a nice bark when you get on the throttle. Thanks for your input!
I put the 50 series flowmaster dual kit on. It did give a little better performance I think, but mileage is still has never gotten over 14mpg.
With the windows up and stereo off I can hear it when I get on it, but not steady throttle. I would have gone with the 40 I think.
I forgot something in my previos post, is the 40 series louder that the 50 series? I'm under the understanding that the 40 series is quieter that the 50 series and that the 40 series has less resonace in the cab. Also, does flowmaster make a direct replacement for the stock muffler? Thanks again!
The 40 series is louder, it has 2 chambers instead of 3. I use the 40 series with dual 2.5" tail pipes out the rear. It has a nice rumble but not overbearing in the cab.
That sounds exactly what I'm looking for Lxman1, but I was going to try for 3 inch single tailpipe. I'm thinking it would be similar to the dual setup as far as sound. What do you guys think? Thanks
