Banks Only Source for Headers?
I'm shopping for a set of headers for my 1996, F-350, 460, 5-speed, 4WD. Is there something special about the 1996-1997 460 5-spd F350's? I've found only Banks makes headers for this application. Unfortunately they are way out of my price range. The Gibson's and Doug Thorley's are listed for automatic transmissions only. BBK made some but they are now discontinued. L & L Ultra Flow has a model that will fit but requires a 6" lift due to the Dana 60 front axle. I contacted Gibson, L&L, and BBK directly to confirm their catalog information. Is everyone using headers have an automatic or spending $1000+ for a Banks set (actually $1600 for the PowerPack kit)?

I thought that the L&L's would fit the F-350's with out a lift? I have a set on my 1994 F-250 and they fit great. I know the front axles are different but I don't see why they wouldn't fit a truck with the solid axle. I really like my L&L's and they are a much better price than the Banks.

The clearance problem with the dana 60 is the passenger side antisway bar link & bracket. Banks has a new bracket to eliminate the problem with their headers. It can be purchased seporatly and might work for other brands. If your truck doesn't have the antisway bar the other brands should fit. Make sure they have EGR and Air Injection to fit your 96. I don't know about the automatic. The starter is the closest thing to the headers. It seems to me that the starter would be in the same place as on the ZF-S5-47. Mine fit fine with the ZF. I have the Banks. You can buy just the header & Y-Pipe and the rest seporate.
