My clutch seems to be slipping when I accelerate in higher gear. Does this mean I am going to need a new clutch or is there an ajustment. How hard is it to replace.
Thanks

What is your truck?
If you go up to User CP and then to Edit signature
Then use the year, motor, tranny, 2 or 4 wheel drive and other particulars about you truck we can all see them and do not have to ask. Makes things a lot easier to answer questions.
2 wheel drive is fairly easy
4 wheel drive is a bit harder because the transfer case has to come out first.
So you should have the dual mass flywheel.
There is a test for the flywheel being bad.
If I remember right you remove the dust cover and rotate the flywheel ring gear back and forth with the tranny in neutral. There should be less than 5/8" free play.
Those things are expensive, lots of guys are replacing it with a Luk solid flywheel and clutch for less than the cost of the dual mass flywheel.
Good point! My clutch started slipping only in higher gears. Pulled the clutch and it looked brand new. I did the checks on the DMF and it check out ok. Turns out their is a clutch type disc between the two halves of the flywheel and it was letting it slip. It look to also be in good shape until I pulled the DMF apart and could see the trouble.
i have found that the easyist way to tell if it is the clutch or flywheel is that a clutch will slip all the time in high gear, if it is the flywheel it will be fine till it gets hot ,then it will slip in high gear.
With the dual mass flywheel, I believe that there were "slip rings" involved that would prevent the clutch/flywheel from being damaged under extreme loads. They do go bad eventually. My truck had the solid flywheel from Luk and it worked prteey good. Right now I'm in the middle of a frame on resto and when I split the bellhousing from the motor I discovered cracks in the flywheel so I will be replacing it. Never a good idea to have heavy pieces of metal spinning at 4K rpms and then fail, especially if you are sitting on top of it. About $600 for new flywheel/clutch/PP.
Sorry to hop in and get a little bit off topic, but
How much does it cost to resurface?
How much is the clutch alone?
What does mine have (sig)?
What should be replaced and what shouldnt? and with what?
Im new to this stuff, so thanks for the help.
Ive got the engine pulled, so the flywheel assembly is out...
