here's the strory, 92 302 w/ 176k..I just replaced the O2 Sensor along with the fuel pressure regulator( code 173 kept coming up, O2 Sensor not switching)
now my problem is the instrumentation panel fuse keeps blowing? and when that happens my truck starts bucking and starving for fuel (keeps running though)
I pulled the fuse and put in a circut tester, it lights indicating somethinf is not grounding and or pulling power? truck continues to hold idle and revs up nicely in park, (Idon't think its the fuel pump).. never had any problems with fuses before? untill I did the replacement parts, and it dosent happen all the time..
I've used five fuses and every time it blows? checked all the wiring harnesses, and the ground.. what gives?
has this ever happened to you?? before I bring it to a dealer cause I'm at my wits end, I decided to try you guys... Plese Help! Thanks
JRB, First of all blowing fuses , doesnt mean something isnt grounding,Something is shorted out( dead short). U mentioned it being the instrument panel fuse and am curious to which one. Under the hood in the power distribution box?and size?I also have a 1992 (351) and wonder if u have nicked a wire on your install to make a dead short.I would check all components installed (wiring) Were they ford parts (bad part mabey) try reinstalling the old part fuse blowing?Process of elimination is the cheapest and tell us what u find . I do have the owners guide and both books ,chiltons and haynes to help u track down this problem. TR
thanks alot, its the inside fuse 10A for the tach and alt. alog with the oil pressure gauge.. damdest thing I've ever seen.. last night I changed the fuel pump relay, and stuck a new fuse in.. went fishing this morn about a half hour ride stopped to get coffe and POP! blown fuse..onces again the truck started to buck and gasp for fuel kept runnin though? well I did my thing and left for the return trip.. poped in a new fuse and OK, got her all the way home and no problem..stopped at the auto parts sotre and picked up a volatage meter, I'm wondering if maybe the alternator is bad? strange things can happen! this one is mind boggling!!! any input?? common guys
as black ford xlt says the process of elimination is the cheapest.
i would start by removing the new parts and reinstalling the old and see if this cures your problem. if so then i would change them back to the new ones one at a time and see wich part it is.
i also think maybe you have stripped or burned the casing on one the wires when you replaced the parts.
you are replacing the fuse with the proper size fuse arent you?
yeah! its only a 10 amp fuse bought them in bulk this time, the damm thing hasen't blow again since this morning.. I'm wondering if the 02 sensor I received at the parts stor was actually the right one?
