When I cut off my engine after parking my 94 Explorer XLT, an odd odor appears. It smells a little like gas, but it is not quite as strong in aroma. I cannot locate the source of the smell but it seems like it is coming from the front rather than from the rear of the car. It is more apparent after I have travelled 20+ miles and only appears after driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i noticed the same problem on my 85 F-150 the other day. it was not an overpowering smell, but a definate gas smell. and i smelt it at the front of my truck, not at the rear.
I had a problem w/ my 96 E150, kept smeeling gas after stopping the vehicle, never could find a drip anywhere. Dealer had it 3 times, replaced the filler hose, no joy. I kept insisting to check the fuel pump gasket(top of tank), they said it was fine. Finally, filling fuel one day, I heard the sound of "rain" looked under the van and gas was pouring from the top of the tank. I drove it (next door) and they replaced the gasket under the fuel pump. Just an idea......
