Starter replacement choices?

Howdy,

I have a 239 V-8 in my 55.

I want to replace the 12V starter....am I correct in assuming that any starter from a 223/239/272/292/312 etc from any year will fit?

Thanks,

Rick

That is right. You can also put in a mini hi torque starter.

Ok,

I'm not sure what you mean by a Hi torque starter......is that what they did in about 1966 when the starter was changed? Which years and engines used the mini hi torque starter?

THanks btw for the info!

The Mini Hi-Torque starters weigh 8 lbs compared to the stock 30 or so. They have a slolenoid that is part of the unit. If you want to use your original solenoid tell the company and the starter can be wired to bypass its solenoid. They mount with two bolts instead of the usual three. I bought mine from www.autoelec.com/html/ford_y_block_starter.html .
