Had my truck at the shop today for a mis-fire that begins at 1500 rpm through 3500. They preformed all test including drivability, but found nothing. Now what? I think that it is a coil? Does anyone have any ideas on how to verify the problem?
I had a rough idle problem in my '04 V10. Took it to the dealer and they ran all the "test" they could and all showed normal. The tech took it out for a drive and confirmed my problem. He said he did some more "testing" and and the computer was showing an occasional mis-fire on the #6 cylinder but was suppoesedly within normal ranges. He tested the #6 coil and it was fine too. Finally he replaced the sparkplug and the problem was solved. Never had a problem since. I guess what I'm trying to say is that all of their test can show normal and there still is a problem. Lucky for me my tech was motivated enough to keep digging and eventually solved my problem. Even though the all his diagnostics said everything was working within normal limits. Stay on the service dept. until you get satisfaction. Sounds like we are in the same line of work.
If the drivability test couldn't find the problem, you may have to load the truck and then test it. The problem could surface more readily when laboring.
