Angry ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!! x(

no tranny places up here in Western Pa have TOP or SROD 4 speed overdrives!!!! NONE AT ALL!!!!!!! its all T-18s, T-19, and NP435!!!!! the granny gear is great but i really dont have a use for it. Im not off roading all the time and i need the gas mileage esp with the 300 and 4.10's not to mention im poor...

Any one know where i can get one fairly close to Western Pa (Slippery Rock/ Pittsburgh) or i can order a used one with a rebuild kit????????????????

Swap gears to 3:1 and go with a t-19 (syncor'd 1st gear, plus it isn't such a granny gear), it'd be cheaper than the going to the SROD which you will be replacing again. And you probably won't find a rebuild kit for these tranny's as no one wants them. I had one in my flareside and swapped it out for a toploader and i have 3.25 rear gears.

Or if you get lucky keep and eye out for 65-72ish ford cars/ranchero with a four sp, these would be the toploaders (the look identical to the SROD, and are a bolt in replacement for it, just need to cut a new hole for the shifter).

I have a 85 Bronco with the 6 cyl., 4 spd. OD. 100,000 miles on it (in storage since 96) It runs and drives excellent, very rusty.
I have placed it in the local automotive/ parts magazine at least 6 times for $150 (parts only)
I have not received one call on it!
I will not part it out!

I have a 3spd with OD toploader you could have, but alas, the 3rd/od bearing is toast.

Good luck. Most of those SROD/toploader/clark ODs are trashed b/c they were garbage to start with.

you might have better luck swapping in a M5OD- more of them around, and they hold up a little bit better.

Youd would have to deal with the hydro clutch on those trannies, the 4sp od tranny's to my knowledge never came with a hydro-clutch, your best bet is to go with a good ol' granny 4sp, or with a toploader out of an early 70-late 60's ford car or ranchero.

mine was hydro.. it was a toploader.

depends on the bell housing, not so much the tranny.

so...more tranny problems, huh? you can get remanufactured SRODs and TODs from most auto parts stores. you can also find them in junkyards. the SROD tends to get a bad reputation, particularly since 79-85 mustang jokers drove the crap out of them and killed them. mine has 218,000 miles on it and it's fine. i just had the bearings replaced and it shifts nice and smooth, no noise. if you're not going to beat your truck up off-road or tow bulldozers with it, one of those tremec trannies will do you just fine. so will the M5OD, but like i've mentioned before, the Mazda uses a concentric slave cylinder. there are two types of hydro clutches ford offered. from 1983-86 it was hydraulic, but only hydraulically actuated. the slave piston worked the clutch fork outside the bellhousing. a concentric cylinder is mounted INSIDE the clutch assembly. that was the deal from 1987-96 for ANY 5-speed.

hmm i may end up goin with the TOD or SROD. if i put a 5 sp in it, dad will kill me. i want to do this w/o him knowing till he has to. i do some occasional playin in a really small mud pit just to "perdy up " my truck. an old Ford looks good with some mud on her lol. i dont like to beat her, but ill pop the clutch ONLY in mud/dirt really loose stuff. im gonna go to the junkyard soon n see what they got.

I wish I could find a T-18 around here! I would gladly trade my T-170 SROD 4-Speed for one. I found one in Ft. Wayne, IN and I wish I would have grabbed it when I had the chance, the guy was practically giving it away.
