New failsafe 160 degree thermostat and water pump.
No visible loss of coolant from hoses, blocks, caps, or bubbles in the radiator.
No sign of water in the oil.
No lack of performance.
The problem just recently developed while on the highway. 65mph, 2k on the tac, and 70 degrees outside. Drove a little over 30 miles and the gauge crept from 1/2 (b/n the E & M on T-E-M-P) to just past the "P". Never broke past the last line of the normal range, but the temp would not go down despite what I tried (turned on the heater blower, reduced speed etc). When I stopped the veh. and turned it off, it overheated. Checked the coolant level and it was still the same. Drove another 30 mph at the same speed and it did it again. Today, I let it idle in the driveway and the temp reached b/n "m-p.
What is the problem? Is the gauge bad or is it more sinister?
I would do a pressure test on the cap and on the system.
Guage would also be a good place to check. I'm not sure how you would go about testing it, but the sensor is on the passenger side of the block down low. I believe its pretty much in the center of the block, maybe 6-8" above where the pan mates to the block.
