I bought a new TT last fall and got quite a few good ideas from you guys.I still didnt get a load leveling hitch because its been a busy winter with a new 1 yr old daughter.I'm wondering if there is any other reason to get one other than making the rig straight.I'm asking becauase I got a new f-150 fx4 5.4 and the rear ends are jacked up on those more than my old 2000 and it sits pretty level without any help.I still yet have to take the camper on its maiden voyage but am wondering if the leveler offers any other advantages
Thanks
You would have to see how much the camper lowers the rear when you put all of the weight on the hitch. You will also have to see how much the front rises. If it puts too much weight on the back the front will get light and you can lose control of the truck, the faster you go the less control you have. The levelizer will put some of the trailer weight back on the front tires as it takes it off the back if properly set up. This allows you to maintain solid steering and control. On a small trailer with a light hitch you might not need them but the bigger the trailer the more you need them. I do not remember the hitch classes of the top of my head but most 1/2 ton up has a hitch rated for about 5000 lbs. If you use a levelizer I think the weight goes up to 10000 lbs. I could be wrong on numbers so you may want to do a search on hitches and loads. You might look at Reeses or some of the other sites like that and get more info.
