I changed out the stock paddle mirrors on my Ex with TT mirrors that include the clearance lights. Everything was plug and play except for the clearance lights. I ran a wire from door to door and spliced into the clearance light lead. I then ran that wire up to the headlight switch and started looking for the 'brown wire' refernced in this forum. I was surprised to find 3 brown wires coming out of the back of the switch. One was coming from a flat plug with four wires and the other two were among the other bunch of wires. When I placed a test light to all 3, they all seemed to be attached to the parking lights. Which one should I attach to?
Not knowing for sure which one folks have referred to in the past I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "it doesn't matter". BUT only as long as the wire you tap into is HOT when you want your clearance lights to go on and not when you want them off.
I hope you are just using the wire to control a relay and not for the source of power to the lights.
Monsta - I didn't use a relay when I installed my lighted moose-ear mirrors ... wired them directly to the lights. Those brown wires (you were correct in "it doesn't matter") are wired directly to the parking lights as per the factory wiring diagrams I have.
I guess pulling the power right off the wire should be okay. Not sure of the exact draw of the clearance lamps. It'll be more than the mirrors, though.
If you go the relay way, the largest, closest, always hot wire is best. I know...I know...not a lot of help there! I don't have the wiring diagrams in front of me to give you a definant source.
