Hi a friend has a 1949 ford truck with a split rim set-up 8 bolt 17 inc rims.
Is anyone making tires for this truck?/ as the owner would like to keep it original.
Also any info on these (split rims would be helpful
Thanks
I finally got rid of my "widowmaker" split rims!
Got a set of 22.5" Five bolt solid rims. Radial tires, here I come! The firs road trip is to the local transfer station to dump the splits!

Hey Reamer.. maybe you can tell the saga of why U needed to get rid of the widow makers.. Like how had it was to find a shop to mount them...
No one would touch them. When talking to some truck-tire personell, Who have seen them blow years ago, the general consensus was "there is no law against the split rims, but using the truck, that locking band in the center of the rim WILL fly off sooner or later, and if you just happen to be going by a kid on a bike, or a car......
I plan on going to the gravel pit with it, hauling wood, ect. It's an F-5, gonna use it as an F-5.
If I hit a bump with a load, the pressure could be enough to pop the ring.
I was told even when removing the tires-rims from the truck, wrap a chain around the rim through the spoke holes in at least 3 places before working on the "widowmakers"
This has been done. the 22.5" tubeless solid rims are out being power coated as we type!
The widow makers are rims that have the split rim facing the outside. The rims on the trucks have the rim facing in. It's only on duals where Ford had the ring facing out since they used the same rim as the inside. I've driven our '65 M-350 with about 3500 lbs in the box over very rough terrain and have never blown a ring. My truck still has split rims on it and I'm planning on keeping them for now as they are the only things I've got for the truck. Our tire shop in town will still service the rims as long as they are in good condition.
