Swapping Engine Question

I have a 460 right now and was thinking about going to a 351W. My truck is a 96 F250 CC 4x4 180k miles on it. I talked to one mechanic who said no sweat and that I would get much better gas mileage. Then I got a second opinion and I get no way the 351 would struggle pulling the truck and I would gain nothing on mileage. I use the pick up as a daily driver and on projects for building minimal towing any suggestions would help me out I get about 10 mpg now.

I've had both the 351 and the 460 engines in F-250 trucks. The 351 gets 1 to 2 MPG better milage than the 460 but certainly not enough to justify an engine swap. Both engines are excellent but I'd rather have the 460. 10 MPG with a 4WD F-250 CC is decent with either engine.

The 460 will use *lots* of gas when you push it hard so I guess the secret to more miles per gallon is to go easy on the gas pedal. Maybe something like a block of wood or a beer can under it might help?

For what you'd spend on an good engine and having a garage swap it, you might just as well pick up an decent f150 with the 4.9 or 5.0

Just my thoughts...
