Exclamation Brake HELP please

I drive a 2001 F-150, and I think I'm having some brake problems. To start I am not mechanically inclined at all.

When I brake it takes a lot of pressure to brake. I was told to check the brake fluid level, and that was fine. Other than that I don't know what else to do. Any ideas on what could be the problem. And any ideas how to fix by myself, or if I need to bring it somewhere.

Thanks for any help.

Well, you're either going to have to learn to be mechanically inclined, or take it someplace to get it fixed.

Based on your description, you may have a bad brake booster. A pedal that's too firm and requires a lot of pressure to stop the truck sounds like it isn't getting enough vacuum assist. They're fairly easy to replace, but also easy to screw up. I would get a Haynes or Chilton's manual if you want to do it yourself.

If the brake lines had air in the lines the pedal would be squishy/spongy. A unordinarily hard pedal would be the booster indeed. or could be the vaccum line to it.

I guess I was a little unclear when I said a lot of pressure. I meant that the brakes were squishy/spongy, and that I had to push further to get a strong response.

Start out by bleeding the brakes. The previously mentioned manuals explain how to do it. It is relatively easy to do unless the bleeders are frozen by rust.
