My check engine light came on yesterday and will not go off. Is there any way that I can pull a code without having to pay someone to use a scanner. I'm hopeing I can gorund a certian wire or something to get a code.
You didn't say what year Explorer, so:
'91-'95 (most '95's anyway) you can get codes with a jumper wire and a voltmeter (CEL can be used in place of the voltmeter) using the procedure under tests at www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html
'96 on require a scanner or code reader. Basic OBD-2 code readers can be had for ~$50. In many cases, a place like Autozone will read your OBD-2 codes for free in the hopes of selling you parts.
It's a 2002. I forgot to mention. I did go to autozone and it turned our to be an evaporative gas system code. He erased the code and it hasn't been on since. Thanks a lot for the help.
