Gonna install my hitch on my "05" escape XLS and was wondering where the best place to tap into the wiring harness for my boat trailer (figure it will be best to do before the hitch is mounted)...........
Well it's funny you ask because I just had a hitch installer look at an 05 escape before I buy one and he found a wiring harness running back to the rear bumper. After seeing this I checked every escape on the lot including the 4cyl engine models and they all have it. If you look up under the bumper on the driver's side you will see a wiring harness that terminates at the bumper. According to ford parts dept. you can buy a wiring harness from them for $100.00 but they couldnt tell me what you get with it. I'm wondering if they are charging $100.00 for a 12" piece of wire with a flat four pin connector on it. I have been researching this for a week and I have not been able to get much info. from any of the dealers I called. Good luck!

Yep...........I found it yesterday when I installed the hitch (Im gonna wire in my own 6-pin plug) BTW.......I bought a Putnam 3500 (tow cap) model #25175 for mine....it's 2" sqaure reciever with round tubulier steel frame.......It mounts so you don't have to cut the bumper cover and took all of an hour to install ($152.00 delivered) let me know if you want the website I ordered from by e-mail. It's made really well and looks great installed .
Stu, did you have power to the harness and if so does everything work. I was told you need to buy a heavy duty flasher in order for the turn signals to work.
sorry didn't get back sooner......My pop died
The website is : http://www.AZTrucks.com ($152 to the door for me)
I already posted the part #..........it bolts right on to the existing holes. the only problem was geting the bolts up into the frame as the heads/bracket were a little bit bigger than the access hole ........used tin snips (go figure) and longated the hole (2 min. tops). The bolts come with a great little wire thing you feed thru 1st, then thread the bolt on and pull it thru. (TAPE YOUR BOLTS BEFORE DISCONNECTING THEM WITH ELECTRICAL TAPE SO THEY DONT FALL IN WHILE RAISING HITCH)install all four bolts and raise the hitch up (takes 2 people as it weighs about 36 lbs and is akward lining up the bolts by yourself). If you can change your oil you can install this easy!!
*wiring the hitch was put on hold........I always put in HD flashers anywho BTW....
Sorry for your loss. I did buy an Escape on Monday and I just checked the factory wiring harness back by the bumper and there isnt any power going to it. I checked the manual for fuse location and found where the fuses should be but there are no connectors to plug a fuse into. It looks like a should have bought one with the tow package but when I saw a harness on all 05 Escapes I assumed it would work. Thanks for the hitch info.
