Is the rust primarily over the rear wheels? If so, you will find a very excellent collection area over the wheels that provides an excellent collection area for dirt, salt and moisture, all that is needed to rust steel. You cannot easily access this for regular washing because they are hidden by the plastic inner fenders. I, after discovering them, pressure washed the crap out, let them dry throughly and applied a product called: POR 15, which has so far solved my problem before there was any more than just very small pinholes. I replaced the inner fenders, but when I wash the truck, which is daily during the winter, I pressure wash these cavities thoroughly. Hope this helps. If the problem is the front wheel wells, you will also find unbelievable areas hidden by the inner fenders, although they are not of the same construction as the rears. Let me know where your rust problem actully is.

If your wheel wells are rotted through, the best way to fix the problem is to buy an upper wheel arch from your local bodyshop supply store. They range in price from $20 - $75 depending on the year of your truck. If the rust extends beyond the upper area above the wheel well, you may need an extended wheel arch. These can be riveted, welded or even glued (special patch panel adhesive) in place after the rusted area is removed. You can use a fiberglass re-enforced body filler for a quick fix, but remember rust is like cancer---unless you get it all, it'll be back.
