Rear diff. advice

My axle is bad, seals and bearing as well but my car is stuck at shop. Would it be chaper to get a new rear differential? And if i get a lower gear ratio will the front need to be swapped as well?

If you change gear ratio both rear & front need to be done.

Unless you can find a good condition boneyard replacement with the same gears, just doing seals and bearings is probably the less expensive route to go. If the gears in the rear end you have are part of the problem already, then its easiest (cheapest) to at least stay with the same ratio so you don't incur the expense of swapping the front gears as well.

You mean just half shafts, or complete axles? For all practical purposes, all complete axles are Ford, and I'm not aware of any aftermarket axle for the Bronco.

You could regear the rear now. You just couldn't use 4WD until you did the front as well.

One can also compensate with tires of different diameter!

For instance, a 4.11 rear would require a 33.55", while a 3.73 rear would require a 30.45" (~31x10.50) actual diameter tire with 235/75R15 tires on a 3.54 front.
